As I write this we are enjoying some rare and much-needed time at home. After a service this morning at our home church (a rare treat), my dad and I indulged in a Sunday afternoon nap surrounded by newspapers, in front of the NBA playoffs, accompanied by a package of Oreos. Now tell me- does it get any better than that?!
We have been burning the roads up lately. We just returned from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the site of Singing In The Sun 2009 and it was arguably the best year ever. Gospel music’s top artists and America’s finest speakers took the stage in front of sellout crowds and many lives were changed. We especially enjoyed the message brought by Dr. David Jeremiah on Wednesday night. Dr. Jeremiah taught on how events in our country and the rest of the world fit into the timeline of prophecy laid out in the Bible. It was very powerful and at the invitation many people were saved and others rededicated their lives to Christ.
A definite highlight for Mom and myself was the first ever “Just Us Ladies” conference presented at Singing In The Sun. Hundreds of women gathered in the convention center to hear my mom, Susan Whisnant and Candy Pfeifer speak. TaRanda Greene, Ivan Parker, Mary Jane Carter and myself provided music. The Lord did a great work in that room that morning and truly began healing many lives. The Spirit was so real as the women worshipped together- I can’t describe it. You’ll have to come next year and get in on it yourself.
Tickets for the Gatlinburg Gathering 2009 are now on sale! Labor Day Weekend, September 4-6, the Gatlinburg Convention Center will be home to the #1 event in gospel music as voted by the fans. You will enjoy all the top groups in gospel music as well as powerful preaching each night. You can call 888-238-6858 or log onto www.abrahamproductions.net to order your tickets. This would make a great mountain retreat!
We were excited (and a little surprised) to learn that our latest radio single, “Life Goes On” is the number one song on the Singing News chart for June! When we first heard it, we loved the song, but thought it was so different in its melody and harmonic structure that to be honest, we weren’t sure it would fit the description of a “southern gospel” radio single. But we have had so many comments on the message of the song; many people tell us every night how much hope they have found in that message, and of course that’s why we sing. Be listening for our next single, “My Hope Is In The Lord” on the radio very soon.
“Life Goes On” was also number one for 7 weeks on the SoGospelNews.com chart, and recently I was honored to co-host the SoGospelNews Awards with Michael Booth- not for the faint of heart! You never know what Michael will say and we laughed our way through the whole show. I was shocked to receive the Female Vocalist of the Year award and my dad, Roger, was named the Producer of the Year by gospel music fans who voted on the SoGospelNews website. Many thanks to the staff and our friends who voted.
We are beginning work on a brand new recording of some of our favorite songs and gospel classics. Members of our TalleyTree-O.com website have offered up suggestions of their favorite gospel songs and they had some great ideas! We will keep you posted on the latest developments!
Prices have just been SLASHED for our New England and Canada Fall Foliage Cruise in October! October 3-10, we’ll be visiting Bar Harbor, Maine; Rockland, Maine; St. John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. We’ll be singing on the ship along with Texas trio Shiloh, and we’ll all laugh till we hurt at Tim Lovelace, one of the funniest Christian comedians anywhere. If you want to enjoy incredible scenery, mouth-watering seafood, great gospel music and fellowship for a week, all you have to do is go to our official website, www.talleytrio.com and click on the cruise “widget.” (I think that’s the funniest word ever) You’ll see all the information you need and you can download your registration form straight from the website. Surprise your pastor, get a group together from your church or take your whole family!
It’s halftime between Denver and Dallas, and I feel another nap coming on. We look forward to seeing you on the road very soon. We couldn’t do this without your prayers and support.
Until next time,
Lauren Talley
