A Message From Debra!

The times that we get to be home and go to our home church are few and far between, but just a couple of weeks ago, Lauren and I were able to go to church on Sunday. There was a good crowd and we had to sit in the balcony. From our vantage point, we could see the entire choir, orchestra, and pulpit area. During the worship portion of the service, my eyes were drawn to the orchestra. The orchestra was small that day and one man stood out to me. He was an elderly gentleman playing the bass fiddle on the right side of the stage. He played with skill and dedication. His part didn’t stand out, but he blended with the other instruments to create beautiful accompaniment for the choir and congregation. I realized I had seen him before. We had been there during the Christmas holidays when he was asked to give a testimony for the Lottie Moon missions offering. This dear man had been a missionary for 40 years and spoke about how much the support of the local churches had meant to he and his wife as they served for all those years. He spoke with passion as if he were delivering one of his sermons from those days. He finished and walked back to his place in the orchestra where he now serves. He could be traveling around now and speaking to crowds about missions and be applauded for his service to God, but he uses his gifts now to serve the Lord in the local church. Service isn’t about spotlight, it’s about obedience. Opportunities are everywhere to serve the Lord in all kinds of ministries. What has God asked you to do? Be obedient to His call and your life will be richer for it!
